For those students with a borderline final grade, five or fewer absences could result in bonus points. TESTS Assessment: There will be four tests worth 75 points each. The dates for the tests are September 6, October 1 and 25, and November 20. There will be seven quizzes on the homework problems worth 10 points each. The dates for the quizzes are August 26, September 16 and 23, October 14 and 21, November 4 and 12. There will be two assignments worth 30 points each. They will be given out on October 1 and 25 and will be due on October 7 and 30 respectively. There will be a final examination, worth 150 points, given as scheduled by the University at the end of the semester. Parts of the tests and final examination may be take-home. There will be two skills tests worth 40 points each (see separate information for details). All points are weighted equally toward your final percentage score. GRADING SCALE Average Grade 90 - 100% A 80 - 89 B 70 - 79 C 0 - 69 F NC POLICY To be eligible for the NC grade, you must: a) regularly and frequently attend and participate in class (present but asleep does not count) with no more than five absences; b) take all quizzes, tests and the final examination according to University policy; c) attain an average for the course of at least 50%. IMPORTANT DATES The Add/Drop period is August 19-23, 2002. The last day for withdrawal is October 11, 2002. University holidays are September 2, November 11, 28 and 29, 2002. Finals week is December 3-9, 2002. If your schedule does not allow you to attend any of my published office hours, please make an appointment for another time. Calculator: You may use a graphing calculator and/or a Computer Algebra System for some of the work in class and for homework but DO NOT EXPECT TO BE ALLOWED EITHER ON QUIZZES, TESTS OR THE FINAL EXAMINATION when you will be allowed to use a scientific calculator. Please note that ON ALL QUIZZES, TESTS AND EXAMINATIONS, WORK MUST BE SHOWN FOR CREDIT TO BE AWARDED. Academic Honesty: The work you turn in to me is expected to be your own. Make-up policy: In cases of documented absences due to religious holidays, family emergencies, illness or official University functions, the University policy for make-up tests and quizzes will be followed. Any other make-up tests and quizzes and the acceptance of late assignments are at the discretion of the instructor. In addition:You will need a supply of "3x5" cards.
