GRADING POLICY
Grades for the course will be based on a take-home midterm test, a take-home final examination, and relatively frequent homework.

TENTATIVE LIST OF TOPICS
This course will cover the basic theory of multilinear algebra, including multlinear maps of vector spaces, the tensor product and tensor algebras, and the exterior product and exterior algebras. We will, as much as possible, discuss things in a basis-free manner. This will require that we have some familiarity of category theory, which is itself an important part of pure mathematics. Time permitting, we will cover some of the basic constructions in commutative algebra which use multilinear algebra.
