by James Stewart, 5th
edition.
Prerequisites:
Successful completion of MAC2311
Calculus I
Purpose of Course: To master the techniques of integration and the fundamental properties of
sequences and series.
Lecture
Schedule: We will cover chapters 7, 8, 9,
11, 12: Inverse functions; exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric
functions and their derivatives; L’Hospital’s rule;
techniques of integration; application of integration to arc length, surface
area; parametric equations and polar coordinates; tangent lines; areas, lengths
in polar coordinates; infinite sequences and series, including convergence
tests and Taylor and Maclaurin Series.
Midterm
& Final Exams: There will be
three in-class tests and a comprehensive final exam. The three midterms are tentatively scheduled
for Monday February 4th;
Friday March 7th; and Monday April 14th. The final exam is scheduled on Wednesday, April 23rd (10:00 - 12:50pm). All exams, including the final, will take
place in the usual lecture room. Make-up examinations will only be given upon prior arrangement with the
instructor in cases of students meeting the criteria for the University policy
for students representing the University. A proof will be required.
Homework
& Quizzes: Homework will
be posted here &
not graded. Bi-weekly quizzes (5 in total) will be given on Fridays January 18th, February 15th
and 29th, March 21st, April 4th.
Grades:
Quizzes: 10 points each; Tests:
50 points each; Final Exam: 100 points.
You can earn up to 300 points. Final course letter grades are given on
the standard grading scale: A:
90%-100%, B: 80%-89%, C: 70%-79%, D: 60%-69%, F: 0%-59% (plus/minus grades will
be assigned).
Attendance & Classroom Conduct: Attendance at lectures is
required. Common courtesy requires that students arrive in class on time, and
stay the entire class period. Turn your cellphones
and pagers off. Please treat your classmates and instructor with respect and
courtesy. Students are responsible for all
material covered, as well as announcements made in lectures.
Regrading Policy: If you believe that a mistake in grading has
been made you may request that your paper be regraded.
Such request must be submitted in writing to Dr. Song within two days from the
day the graded test has been returned in class, and must be accompanied by the
original (unaltered) paper.
If you make any changes to the
paper your request will be denied. Please note that if you request regrading, all problems are subject to review.
